A note on Interior Monologue: I discovered thru studying various stone age tribes past and present that typically, they were straight line thinkers who reflected their thoughts thru words and actions. This is the main reason why The First Man Standing relies heavily on dialogue and action and is light on I.M. I don't recommend emulating this technique for any other genre unless you are writing about another planet in which everybody says what they think. Pre-historic man was innocent of our modern deceits and to ascribe to them jeolousy, mayham, false pride etc. will weaken your manuscript. Also, try to pick up tribal cadences and drop modern words.

COMMON QUESTIONS asked of the author:

Q: What qualifies you to write about our pre-history?
A. The least qualified person to write fiction on any subject is a top expert in the field! Why, because they're an expert on science or the subject at hand and don't typically have the time or talent to write fiction. They would have to be retrained, spend the time to learn a totally separate craft and be taken off their game as expert. Often, the best thing for them to do is hire a ghost writer. Although I'm schooled in scientific research being an x-physicist and engineer, I have an artistic bent and am full time as a writer. The only qualification an author needs to write a good yarn (fiction) is readers who say they enjoyed the story. Research these days is easy for most by using the internet. There you can read the science info sometimes presented for the general public and simply choose which of the current theories match your beliefs and intent for the story. I intended to show the common ancestry of Neanderthals and Homo sapiens and the relationship with wolves as a form of mutualism or co-evolving. It's as simple as that. If your theories on our pre-history differ from the ones I culled, I might humbly suggest that you would still enjoy the trip back in time I have planned for you. Consider it an alternative view. All good scientists study alternative views with the truth driving them. Often something can be learned. A good example of this is the dog genome project that has collected scientists of diverse opinions together to pool resources in an attempt to find the truth.

Q: Isn't a black Eve or the time frame going to aggravate fundamentalist readers?
A: It's a fictional story about love, peace, innocence and tolerance. No, not at all. There are some elements of symbolism in it. I thoroughly enjoyed the imagery and hope the readers do to. The keepers of time (and inventors of timepieces and measuring devices) are scientists and I say render onto the scientists the things that are theirs. Time is a convenient way of looking at and ordering or sequencing events.

Q: Is TFMS meant for kids?
A: No, TFMS is meant for the Peter Pans in us all. There are some adult situations addressed, but not in a graphic or explicit way. The novel starts when Arny is thirteen and then moves on to his thirty-third year. Dr. Arny Singer meets (via time travel?) and falls in love with Eve! Why exclude the lower age groups from one of their favorite topics?

ERRATA: Any copies bought prior to April 1, 2008 can exchange with me for the current rendition, which is found on Amazon and bookstores. Contact me and I'll cover all the costs. The changes after April 2008 are:

5. In chapter 4 - Sacrifice, the last paragraph of the first scene has See could see and shoud be She could see.
